What matters is your attitude and aptitude and you appear to be on the right track with both. We can all learn new things and if we try we can all contribute something. Some of us are very old and some are very young and many are somewhere in between. ![]() This will allow you to do some 3D modeling (pick something that is fairly simple for your first 3D model) and more XML work and will move you another step up the learning curve while still allowing you to get something working in a relatively short time frame. A much larger % of those who start off doing smaller tasks on existing aircraft end up making a significant contribution either by doing smaller things to a lot of aircraft or by transforming an existing aircraft into something much better (the P-51D is an example of one of these) or after building a decent skill set doing their own aircraft from scratch.ĭoing some cockpit work on the X-02 sounds like the next logical step for you. It does happen but it is rare - the recent Bonanza work by a noob is an example of one of these rare cases. Only a small % of aircraft development noobs who start a new aircraft without having done some previous work on another aircraft actually manage produce something worth while. This allows you to keep the frustration level down while learning how things work. It limits the steepness of learning curve and allows you to actually get something done in the short term. ![]() One of the better approaches for a noob is to start out working on improving something that is already there but needs work. Since the learning curve is fairly steep (you need to learn a 3D modeling tool plus a lot of other stuff that has been mentioned in this thread) it is best to start with something very simple. For someone new to one of the best places to start is doing cockpit work. By working on these less complete aircraft you help move the ball forward on that aircraft. There are currently way too many aircraft in a very incomplete state that need tons of work. This approach has a number of things going for it that benefit the FlightGear community as well as someone new trying to become an active member of the community. It is much easier to do and gives you a giant advantage by the time you create an aircraft completely by yourself. We encourage new aircraft developers to start their 'career' by modifying and enhancing existing aircraft. Whatever you do, keep your initial project limited in scope and within your capabilities. Another alternative is to try modeling some cockpit instruments. It's a good way to learn and quickly benefit the community. The advice to start with modeling ground objects like buildings is sound. Much can be done (and in my opinion should be done) through smart use of textures and normal maps. Excessive 3D modeling is often unnecessary. ![]() Cockpit modeling is complex and poses some of the most difficult and frustrating challenges in aircraft modeling. Do not start with cockpit modeling, at least not anything more elaborate than very simple GA aircraft.Avoid anything with lots of compound curves.Avoid anything with lots of external detail.Avoid obscure aircraft where information is scarce.Don't rely on the cheesy little 3-views found all over the Internet- the resolution is too low to be useful and they are often not accurate. If fidelity is a factor, avoid anything where you cannot find clear high-resolution 3-views or engineering schematics. Some suggestions for those relatively new to modeling wanting to contribute models to Flightgear: There are many things required to develop an aircraft for FlightGear. Battery capacity gives you the vital stat of how charged the system is, and then incoming and ongoing power let you track usable and charging capabilities. The continuously updated runtime indicator is very useful, giving you real-time feedback on how loads are affecting the battery. Left to right with a quick glance you can view runtime remaining, charge percentage of the battery, incoming and outgoing power usage as well as some other indicators showing you which ports or features are active. The front of the DELTA mini has a bright and easy-to-read display, giving you a concentrated view of the inner workings of the Power Station. Design can go a long way and EcoFlow really went all out, building the DELTA mini with a premium look and feel. Minimal plastic creaking when you move it around and it also has integrated rubber pads on the bottom of the case to give it a solid footing. It has a very well-made case with a study feel. Out of the box, the EcoFlow DELTA mini comes out as a very slick and fully integrated power solution. If you are running equipment and low on power, you don’t need to turn things off to charge the battery. The DELTA mini can also support power while operating, giving it UPS capabilities or keeping devices running while your car or solar panels are adding juice back into the battery. This might not seem like much, but some models can take most of a day to charge with much smaller external power supplies. This puts its power capabilities closer to that of a gas generator than most rechargeable systems on the market.Īnother key aspect of the DELTA mini is its ability to charge at up to 900 watts when connected to AC power, which allows it to fully charge in under 2 hours. It supports peak power draws up to 2100W, and also has an X-boost mode for certain power-hungry devices that are less sensitive to power quality that increases the 1400W capabilities up to 1800W. ![]() The EcoFlow DELTA mini is a 1400W Portable Power Station with a battery capacity of 882Wh. This way, you’ll already be familiar with the characters and the cadence of the author. If you want to start with fiction, consider a re-read of a favorite title or a sequel of a series you’ve already enjoyed. Educated, When Breath Becomes Air and Born a Crime are excellent choices. It feels like someone is simply telling you about themselves and they have a familiar conversational flow. I find the easiest audiobooks to follow are memories narrated by the author. They’re not something to avoid outright, as sometimes the audio can complement these features, such as with Lincoln in the Bardo, but I wouldn’t suggest starting there. Books that bounce from one time period to another, shift perspective or have multiple points of view are more challenging. Complex structures can be challenging via audio as well if you’re not used to retaining the info audibly. It’s easier to retain a story if you just heard the early portions a few days or weeks ago. With long sagas, you can forget the early portions and you can’t refresh your memory via a quick flip through of the early chapters. reading them in print, it was easier to follow the book if it was short and less complex. I found that when I was just getting started listening to books vs. The longer books definitely give you the most value in terms of cost, however, I’d encourage those of you new to the format to choose a shorter title. I read 75-100 books a year, with the majority read via audio due to some visual issues I have. Thank you Anne, for showing me the value of audiobooks. Currently I’m listening to Michelle Obama’s Becoming and I absolutely love it. The first I tried was The Good Life and fell in love with the narration. It has literally changed my reading life. I read on your blog that listening to books and reading books uses the same parts of your brain. How could I encourage her to listen to audiobooks if I didn’t see the value in them for myself? I needed to show her that reading didn’t have to mean a physical book in my hands. It was always important for me to model reading in front of our children, and I want my daughter to love it as much as I do. During my research I discovered audiobooks would be beneficial for her. My daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia last summer. Then I realized I was listening to tons of podcasts and found them engaging, so maybe audiobooks would be the same. I always assumed I would be too distracted to follow an audiobook. I’m embarrassed to say I used to be an audiobook “snob” – did it really count as reading if I was doing it while I also washed dishes? Three big “ah ha” moments changed my mind. I only began listening to audiobooks in Dec 2018. ![]() Tell me your thoughts in comments? 20 extra-long audiobooks that are (mostly) 20 hours or more And I included one I’m eager to read but haven’t yet. ![]() I snuck in two that are a little less than twenty hours because I LOVED them. Today I’m sharing my favorite, very long audiobooks. And if you’re paying for those audiobook credits through a service like Audible or Libro.fm (where one credit = one book), an extra-long audiobook helps you get the most value out of those credits. Decide once, and you can happily listen for a good long time, without needing to visit your library website or peruse an app. That means if you’re struggling to figure out which audiobook to listen to next, you’re in good company.Ī favorite way to answer this question that plagues every reader (and listener) is to choose a long audiobook-one that comes in at around twenty hours, or perhaps much more. If you’ve started listening to audiobooks in the past year, you are in good company-listenership increased dramatically from 2017 to 2018, and I expect to go up from there. The first thing to consider is the size of the prey. The killing of the lion for their prey depends on the prey. However, it is not impossible to happen because lions will have prey that is stronger than them and can do them damage. As you can see, lions are born predators, and they are natural predators. Lions will often have to eat their prey alive. But if the prey is somewhat firm, they would eat the prey and kill it by eating them. So if the predator or the lion thinks that the prey can be killed, they will do that because they prefer to kill their prey. So what will happen is they will all gather around they would grab and hold the prey while the others would start the killing. However, it is the only thing they can do to keep and eat their prey. This is not the preference, though, of smaller predators. Instead, they would just eat their prey to death. So when these small predators hunt, they will not waste their futile attempts in killing their prey. ![]() So when these small predators hunt, they must be clever. These small predators have tiny teeth and they have small jaws. In the end, they just eat their prey, hoping the eating will kill them soon. There are small predators like dogs and other small animals that will have a hard time killing their prey for more clarity. If the attempts of the lion or group of lions in killing their prey are not successful, they will eat their prey without finishing the killing. So a lion will only eat their prey alive if they are having trouble killing the prey. If the prey has horns, they can also use those horns in fighting back. If alive, the prey can still even break the bones of the predators, or in this case, the lion. Predators do not want this type of hassle, especially if they are already hungry and need the food. They can also scratch, and they can still even bite you. If the prey is alive, the prey can still struggle with all its might. If an animal eats a living prey, it can be dangerous and difficult. Typically, predators do not like to eat their prey while their prey is alive. If you are as curious as some people, this article is definitely for you. So today, we will talk about how lions hunt and eat their prey. When a lion feels that they can jump in anytime, they will pounce on their prey. In appearance, these lions would crouch very low to the ground, and then very slowly, they creep to the position of their targeted prey. They must be very close to their prey to be at an advantage if the chase will begin. They come in groups, and they stalk their prey. They do not have a very fast speed like the Cheetah and other fast animals have.īut lions are strong and dominant. They love gathering food and killing their prey. Lions are known to hunt animals as much as they can. A male lion can eat an average of seven kilograms of food every day, and a female lion can also consume food with an average of four point five kilograms. ![]() However, if the prey is a threat, they can slowly eat the prey alive without having to kill it like an elephant. So do lions eat their prey alive? This is a case-to-case basis because typically, lions would prefer to kill their prey first before devouring. ![]() They love to hunt for food, but how exactly does a lion hunt and eat its prey? Some self-destructive individuals may even hope they will be caught and executed.ĭeath penalty laws falsely convince the public that government has taken effective measures to combat crime and homicide. The few murderers who plan their crimes beforehand - for example, professional executioners - intend and expect to avoid punishment altogether by not getting caught. People commit murders largely in the heat of passion, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or because they are mentally ill, giving little or no thought to the possible consequences of their acts. Claims that each execution deters a certain number of murders have been thoroughly discredited by social science research. The death penalty has no deterrent effect. ![]() And states that have abolished capital punishment show no significant changes in either crime or murder rates. States that have death penalty laws do not have lower crime rates or murder rates than states without such laws. Q: Doesn’t the Death Penalty deter crime, especially murder?Ī: No, there is no credible evidence that the death penalty deters crime more effectively than long terms of imprisonment. ![]() We also believe that the death penalty continues to be applied in an arbitrary and discriminatory manner in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.įrequently Asked Questions raised by the public about Capital Punishment The ACLU believes that, in all circumstances, the death penalty is unconstitutional under the Eighth Amendment. Today, about 3,350 people are on “death row.” Virtually all are poor, a significant number are mentally disabled, more than 40 percent are African American, and a disproportionate number are Native American, Latino, and Asian. In 2004, the high courts of Kansas and New York struck down their death penalty statutes as unconstitutional and the legislatures have yet to reinstate them. The vast majority of executions have taken place in 10 states from the South and over 35% have occurred in Texas. Alaska and Hawaii have never had the death penalty. Several states in the Midwest and Northeast have abolished capital punishment. Today, states have laws authorizing the death penalty, as does the military and the federal government. Several states promptly passed or reenacted capital punishment laws. Georgia, the Court resuscitated the death penalty: It ruled that the penalty “does not invariably violate the Constitution” if administered in a manner designed to guard against arbitrariness and discrimination. Georgia, the Supreme Court invalidated hundreds of death sentences, declaring that then existing state laws were applied in an “arbitrary and capricious” manner and, thus, violated the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment, and the Fourteenth Amendment’s guarantees of equal protection of the laws and due process. By 1967, capital punishment had virtually halted in the United States, pending the outcome of several court challenges. However, public outrage and legal challenges caused the practice to wane. By the 1930s, as many as 150 people were executed each year. More than 14,000 people have been legally executed since colonial times, most of them in the early 20th Century. Since our nation’s founding, the government - colonial, federal, and state - has punished a varying percentage of arbitrarily-selected murders with the ultimate sanction: death.
